Little of this... Little of that...

Well, Cam had her follow up ENT appt for her ear tubes this week and she checked out perfectly. Her hearing looks perfect as do her tubes and ears. Dr. Bates was pleased and said she's good to go, that he wouldn't need to see her for another 6 months. Good news!

But, the not-so-good-news is that Cam has had a cold and cough for 4 straight weeks. Ugh!!! Poor thing just can't kick this darn thing! She developed this cold a few days before getting tubes and that was the first week of October!!! Brian, the rock-star dad that he is, took little bit to the Dr yesterday after his last patient, just to make us feel better and have her looked at, and they did put her on antibiotics. They do think she has an infection so I'm glad we took her in! Here's hoping these drugs work!!! We are ready for her to feel better and stop having to deal with this awful cough. While she was there they weighed her and she weighs 23.6 lbs. Maybe she's started to slow down a little. My goodness, I'd hope so! She's in full-on 2T clothes! They fit her like a glove. Crazy! We recently switched Pediatricians and its been the best thing I've done as a parent to date! Not even kidding. I just kept thinking things would get better at my old PED office but after going to Forest Lane Pediatrics a couple times, it made me realize how awful this other practice was. We were clearly a # there, and with a background and career in sales, no one, and I mean, NOONE, should ever have to feel like just a #. I was very disappointed with the whole experience but we are finally happy and loving our new PED family! Thanks, Linds, for the referral. Awesome group!!!!!

Cam is REALLY walking now and becoming more confident

And, last but not least: we got a high chair!!!! We thought her little clip-onto-the-bar-chair would work but we really do need a high chair.

Have a great weekend all,
Lindley

Saturday morning, a bunch of people from work and girlfriends walked the Susan G Komen race for the cure at North Park Mall and I was so proud of Debra! She walked all 3.1 miles and did great! Kayla brought fun props and we had a good time. ;)

Debra is in there somewhere. This was the survivor march...extremely emotional.

Love you Deb and we are so proud of you!!!!

George Elbert Douglass June 24, 1920-October 7, 2012

My sweet Grandaddy 'Doug' went to be with our Master a week ago last Sunday morning and his service was unlike any service I've ever experienced before in my life.

I knew he was a World War II Veteran, and played a big part in freeing our Country, but after learning he made 3 news stations, was selected to attend the first ever South Plains Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. 2 weeks ago, & had a US Representative from Austin, along with a sergeant and Captain from Ft. Hood attend his services, I have never been more proud than I was last week. He died 48 hours after he returned home from that trip to DC, peacefully in his bed, and my Dad said he had a smile on his face. He touched so many lives and we will miss him greatly. Hearing Taps played at his graveside will be something I will never.ever.forget.
The Captain and Sergeant from Ft. Hood who came to personally honor my granddad at his graveside.

Seeing that flag draped over his casket was more than touching...

My dad arranged for a bagpiper to be there. He was at the private burial, walked us down the aisle at the church for his funeral and played during lunch. So neat!!!

Ian and London were fascinated by the bagpipe itself. He let them hold it and everything.

His obituary from my hometown newspaper is below.

The US State representative presented my dad with this framed picture of all the War Veterans on the Honor Flight and a US flag. Approximately 125 men were chosen to be on this Honor Flight and while they were there, the US Capital, in DC, flew a flag for every honoree. One of those flags is below. They wanted our family to have it. So very special.

Granddaddy was a 23-year-old Army captain in command of 168 enlisted men and five officers. If that isn't inspiration to make him proud I don't know what is. My dad did such a beautiful job planning everything and I know my Granddad would have planned it the exact same way had he been alive to do so.
While we were home, we did get to spend some quality time with family, which is always cherished. Funerals are always good times for that but wouldn't ever wish for circumstances like these as a way of getting everyone together. My cousin Melony took some great pictures too so once I get those from her I'll post them.
Mom bought London and Cam matching Halloween PJ's

All the grandkids LOVE these chairs that Grammy buys for them!

Mom and dad kept Cam for us Saturday night while we attended the Tech/WV game and what a game that was!?!?!!? My Red Raiders beat the #5 team in the nation!!!! Wreck 'Em Tech!!!
Thanks for all your help mom. We had a blast and saw one of the biggest games in TX Tech history thanks to you. ;). Love you!!!! Lindsay and Joey hosted us at their home and cooked some delicious food!!! Joey you are a 'natural' on the smoker sir! And Tami and Carlos, it was wonderful seeing you and your beautiful baby girl, Carter. Looking FW to Tech/UT weekend!!

Overall, it was a wonderful trip home and we were glad to be there. Until next time Granddaddy. I love you with every inch that I have and will long to make you proud all the days of my life. Tell Grandmommy Dottie hello and that I love her.

Debra and ear tubes

Ok so on my 'wedding dress' post I forgot to mention someone who is near and dear to our heart. That person is Debra Peck. What on earth would we do without her? A plainview girl with great sense of humor, sarcasm, intelligence, sports knowledge, caring spirit, generosity, sincerity, friendship, immense love for Cameron... The list goes on and on. Debra kept Cam from 9-3 for us last Saturday and it meant so much! We both had plans that day and Debra stepped right in and offered to help us. All the while, Cam has been extremely sick but that didnt stop her. She stepped right in and portrayed her 'child whisperer' character with flying colors. Cam got her first taste of Chic fi La thanks to her. Here is a pic deb sent me right before lunch. Shoes and a bow to boot. ;).

October is breast cancer awareness month and Team Herring with walk the Race for the Cure at Northpark on the 20th for her. She battled this nasty disease last year and I will be forever grateful that she put one foot in front of the other, each and every day, during surgery, chemo, and radiation, to beat it. We love you Debra Peck and are lucky you're in our lives. Thanks for all you do for us.
This morning, Cam got tubes in her ears and we are so glad! Here's to a happy and healthy baby girl again!!! She did beautifully and the nurses adored her.
